Chapter 6: The Architect of Shadows**

By noon, Vincent's penthouse had transformed into a command center.

Lawyers, forensic accountants, and private security specialists occupied the marble tables that Clara had once decorated with imported orchids. Vincent stood at the head of the boardroom table, clad in simple dark denim and a black sweater, having discarded his former executive vanity.

""The paper trail is genius, but sloppy at the edges,"" explained Evelyn, his chief legal counsel. ""Sterling used Clara’s medical trust as a legal shield. Because you signed power of attorney under the guise of her disability, the funds were funneled into third-party holding accounts categorized as 'experimental therapy research.'""

""Can we freeze the accounts?"" Vincent asked.

""Domestically, yes. We’ve already placed an emergency injunction on their local holdings,"" Evelyn replied. ""But Sterling still holds physical bearer bonds and three million in gold bullion stored in the maritime vault at Pier 42. Once they board that cargo freighter tonight, our jurisdiction ends.""

Vincent tapped his fingers on the glass table. ""What about the boy's evidence?""

""The video Leo took is ironclad,"" Evelyn smiled faintly. ""It proves continuous, premeditated fraud. It completely invalidates the power of attorney contracts and the medical liability waivers you signed. Clara is facing twenty years for grand larceny and wire fraud. Dr. Vance has already been picked up by state troopers at the airport; he folded in ten minutes.""

""Good,"" Vincent said. ""Now tell me about the evictions in the Mill District.""

Evelyn's face darkened. ""Sterling’s real estate shell bought the delinquent tax liens on those blocks. By law, if the back taxes aren't paid by 5:00 PM today, the city signs over the demolition permits. Sarah, Leo, and two hundred other families will be on the street by midnight.""

Vincent checked his watch. It was 1:15 PM.

""How much are the back taxes?""

""Eight hundred thousand dollars.""

Vincent didn't hesitate for a single second. ""Pay it. Wire the cashier's check directly to the municipal comptroller under an anonymous community trust. Then transfer the deed ownership to the tenant collective.""

Evelyn blinked in astonishment. ""Vincent, you just lost twelve million—""

May you like

""I didn't lose twelve million,"" Vincent interrupted quietly. ""I bought my freedom. Now let's go get theirs.""
