THE GHOST IN THE WHEELCHAIR / Chapter 15 / 15

Chapter 15: The Unshakable Truth**

The little Italian bistro on 4th Street was filled with laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the rich aroma of garlic and toasted bread.

Vincent sat at the head of a long wooden table surrounded by friends who loved him not for his bank account, but for his heart. Leo was passionately explaining the physics of pneumatic valves to Evelyn, while Maya was drawing a picture of their new community garden on a paper placemat.

Marcus leaned over, clinking his glass against Vincent’s. ""To real wealth,"" Marcus toasted softly.

""To real wealth,"" Vincent echoed, taking a sip.

Later that evening, after the cake had been cut and the celebrations wound down, Vincent walked Leo and his family back to their building. The streetlights bathed the clean brick facade in a gentle, protective glow.

At the front steps, Leo paused and turned to Vincent.

""Vincent?""

""Yeah, buddy?""

""Do you ever get mad about what happened? About the lady in the park?"" Leo asked quietly, his hazel eyes thoughtful.

Vincent looked down at the boy who had changed his destiny with a single video.

""I used to be, Leo,"" Vincent said gently, crouching down to meet his eyes. ""I used to think that she took three years of my life away. But then I realized something important.""

""What's that?""

""Lies can travel fast, and they can build big houses, but they have no roots. The truth might start in the mud, on an old broken phone, but it’s the only thing that can ever set you free.""

Vincent tapped Leo’s chest. ""You taught me that. Don't ever forget it.""

Leo grinned, giving Vincent a fierce, tight hug before running up the steps into the warmth of his home.

Vincent stood under the streetlamp, buttoning his jacket against the cool night breeze. He looked up at the starlit sky, took a deep, clear breath of freedom, and walked forward into a future built entirely on truth."
