Chapter 14: The Return to the Park**

On a crisp autumn afternoon, exactly two years after that fateful day, Vincent walked alone down the cobblestone alleyway in the park.
The golden hour light filtered through the canopy of orange and yellow leaves, painting the wet stones in shades of amber. The air smelled of rain and pine.
He stopped at the exact spot where Clara had sat in the blue wheelchair.
For a long time, this place had been the epicenter of his deepest humiliation and rage. But as he stood there now, watching a young couple walk their golden retriever and children chase bubbles down the lane, he realized the pain was completely gone.
Pain had been the price of admission to reality.
He thought of the life he used to live—surrounded by superficial flattery, obsessed with accumulating paper wealth, living inside a gilded cage constructed by guilt. Clara’s deceit had shattered that cage into dust. In destroying his false world, she had unwittingly forced him to build a real one.
A text message buzzed in his pocket. He pulled out his phone.
It was a picture from Sarah. It showed Leo standing on a stage at the State Science Fair, wearing a blue blazer, proudly holding a first-place trophy for his smart-inhaler prototype, with Maya jumping for joy beside him.
Underneath, Sarah had written: *“We saved a seat for you at the celebratory dinner. Hurry up, Uncle Vincent!”*
Vincent looked at the photo, feeling a profound warmth settle deep into his bones.
