Chapter 8 - Into the Lion's Den

At 9:00 AM, the fifty-second floor of the Vance Tower was a fortress of polished chrome, smoked glass, and predatory tension. Twelve board members sat around an immense marble conference table. Julian Vance sat at the head, smirking beside two high-powered corporate attorneys.
""Ladies and gentlemen,"" Julian announced, tapping his pen. ""Damian has endangered our billion-dollar valuation over personal sentimentality. We are voting today to freeze Eleanor’s voting shares under medical incompetence and terminate Damian's executive privileges.""
The boardroom doors opened with a decisive click.
Damian strode in, radiating total command. Beside him walked Eleanor, upright and regal with a polished mahogany cane. And walking beside Eleanor, wearing an understated tailored charcoal suit, was Clara. Her hair was pulled back elegantly, revealing high cheekbones and striking hazel eyes that silenced the room.
""You're late, Damian,"" Julian sneered, though his eyes darted nervously to Eleanor. ""And you brought company. This is a closed board meeting, not a family reunion.""
""This is the Vance Board,"" Eleanor spoke, her voice carrying the unmistakable weight of fifty years of supremacy. ""And I still own fifty-one percent of the controlling voting stock. You claim I am incompetent, Julian? Let us review the corporate audit.""
Damian motioned to his legal team, who tossed thick leather binders in front of every board member.

""While you were busy conspiring with Richard Sterling to crash our IPO,"" Damian said, his voice dropping an octave into pure ice, ""our forensic accountants uncovered something fascinating. Julian, you've embezzled eighty million dollars over four years through shell logistics companies tied directly to the Sterling syndicate.""
The room erupted into furious whispers. Julian’s face drained of every drop of color.
