Chapter 10 - The Gala of Truth

Two weeks after Julian’s arrest and the collapse of the corrupt Sterling syndicate, the Vance Estate threw another grand gala.
This time, the event wasn't a playground for arrogant socialites. The invitations had been extended to philanthropists, community leaders, and the quiet heroes who worked the ground-level shifts across New York’s hospitals and charities.
The chandelier sparkled with renewed brilliance, casting warmth rather than cold arrogance over the marble foyer.
Damian stood at the top of the marble staircase in his bespoke black tuxedo, tapping a crystal flute to command the room's attention. Silence fell instantly, but the air felt open, bright, and alive.
""A few weeks ago, at the foot of this very staircase, an incident occurred that exposed the ugly decay hiding beneath our privilege,"" Damian announced into the microphone. ""We forgot that true strength isn't determined by bank accounts, but by the courage to protect those who cannot protect themselves.""
He extended his hand toward the arched doorway.
Clara walked out beside Eleanor. Clara wore a simple, breathtaking emerald silk gown. She wore no diamond tiaras, no showy emerald rings—only the vintage silver locket against her collarbone.

""Tonight,"" Damian declared, his eyes shining with profound pride, ""I introduce to you my niece, Eleanor's granddaughter, and the new director of the Vance Family Foundation: Clara Vance.""
Applause thundered through the grand hall, genuine and resounding. Clara looked across the smiling crowd, feeling the phantom hand of her mother resting gently on her shoulder, finally at peace.
