Chapter 8 - The Price of Silence

From the floor below, the unmistakable sound of sirens began to bleed through the triple-pane glass windows—not local squad cars, but the distinct, multi-tone sirens of federal agency vehicles.

Reed’s smile faltered slightly. One of his operatives stepped back inside, tapping his ear piece. "Sir, we have armored vehicles coming down the private drive. State police and federal marshals."

Reed rounded on Julian. "You didn't have time to contact the authorities. David was running perimeter jamming."

"David was running perimeter jamming on your frequencies," Julian said calmly, taking out his black smartphone and displaying the active screen. "I didn't call the police, Marcus. Christopher did. Six months ago."

Reed’s brow furrowed. "Christopher is in a family crypt."

"He built a dead-man's protocol into the family trust," Julian explained, his voice low and unwavering. "Every morning at six o'clock, his biometric key was required to delay the automated transmission of his personal archives to the Department of Justice. For six months, I maintained that key, assuming it was just corporate insurance. But when Elena told me about the flash drive, I didn't cancel the license. I disabled the bypass."

Reed lunged forward, his composed mask shattering into savage rage. "You ruined us! You destroyed the entire Vance legacy!"

"No," Julian said, meeting Reed's glare without flinching. "I dismantled your corporation to save my family's soul."

The door to the corridor burst open. David stepped through, backed by four heavily armed tactical officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, their rifles aimed directly at Reed’s security detail.

"Drop your weapons!" David shouted. "Now!"
