Chapter 9: Breach and Confession

Gable took another measured step forward, the revolver steady in his grip, the office shadows stretching across his expensive Italian leather shoes. "Put the bag down, Sela," he commanded, his voice dripping with venomous amusement. "You really thought you could outplay the house? This hotel belongs to men like me. You're just help. Disposable."

I didn't drop the bag. My fingers tightened around the canvas straps inside my apron pockets, every muscle coiled for a desperate move I knew I couldn't win. Gable's finger tightened slightly on the trigger, his smile widening into something truly ugly.

"Say goodbye to your brother for me," he whispered, raising the barrel a fraction of an inch toward my face.

The heavy oak office door didn't just open; it exploded inward with a deafening crash that rattled the picture frames on the walls.

Before Gable could shift his aim, a dark blur crossed the threshold. Dante moved with terrifying, predatory speed. In a single fluid motion, he crossed the room, his hand slamming upward into Gable’s wrist with a sickening crunch of bone. The revolver discharged, the bullet burying harmlessly into the plaster ceiling as the weapon clattered across the polished hardwood floor.

Gable let out a choked gasp, but the sound was cut short as Dante grabbed him by the silk lapels of his jacket, lifting him off his feet and slamming him hard against the reinforced glass of the bookshelf. The glass spiderwebbed outward under the impact, showering the floor with glittering shards.

"You like pointing guns at people who can't fight back?" Dante's voice was a low, glacial hiss that carried more violence than any weapon in the room. He pressed his forearm against Gable’s throat, cutting off his air supply until the manager's face turned a mottled, desperate shade of purple.

"I'll... I'll sign anything," Gable choked out, his hands clawing uselessly at Dante's muscular forearms. "Just... God, don't break my neck."

"You're going to sign a full confession," Dante said, releasing his grip just enough for Gable to draw a ragged, wheezing breath, "detailing every shell company, every extortion threat, and every dollar you stole from the staff. And then, you're going to wait right here for the federal marshals."

I stood frozen beside the open safe, clutching the ledgers to my chest, watching the absolute dominance radiating from Dante. The man who had intercepted my phone call in the hallway was no longer just a protector; he was an unstoppable force of nature, rewriting the rules of the world in real-time.

Gable nodded frantically, his arrogance completely shattered, sliding down the broken bookcase until he sat in a pathetic heap on the carpet. Dante stepped back, adjusting his cuffs with unnerving calm, before turning his dark eyes toward me.
