Chapter 15 - A New Foundation

The morning sun washed over the polished marble foyer in warm, golden bars, chasing away the lingering chill of the previous night's confrontation. The estate was remarkably quiet; the staff moved with easy grace, and the heavy cloud of tension that had hung over the mansion for weeks had finally lifted into the clear autumn air.
Luca and I stood together beside the permanent glass exhibition case near the grand staircase. Inside, resting on custom white velvet, Sofia Moretti's vintage ivory lace gown looked breathtaking, completely restored to its original, timeless elegance. The embroidered blue flowers caught the morning light, a permanent testament to resilience and truth.
"The county prosecutor confirmed her assets are frozen pending the fraud investigation," Luca said softly, his hands resting in the pockets of his dark trousers as he stared through the glass at the dress. "Her family trusts are being audited. It's over, Emma. Truly over."
I looked up at him, feeling a profound sense of lightness settle into my chest. "You handled that with more grace than most people could manage."
Luca turned his head, his dark eyes softening as he looked down at me. The harsh, defensive armor he had worn when we first met in this very foyer was entirely gone, leaving only an open, honest warmth. He reached out, his tattooed hand gently catching mine, his fingers interlacing with a familiar, comforting certainty.
"I didn't do it alone," Luca murmured, stepping closer until I could feel the steady, reassuring rhythm of his breathing. "You held this family together when everything was falling apart. You saved my mother's legacy, Emma. Now... I want to make sure you have a real future here. Not as a guest, and certainly not as staff."
My breath hitched, my heart skipping a beat as I searched his eyes. "Luca..."
"Stay," he whispered, lifting his free hand to gently cup my cheek, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw with infinite care. "Help me run this place, and help me build something honest from the ground up. By my side."
May you like
I leaned into his touch, a slow, genuine smile breaking across my face as I looked past him at the glowing ivory lace and the sunlit foyer beyond. "I'd like that very much."
He pulled me close, wrapping both arms around me in a steady, protective embrace, and for the first time in years, the grand mansion felt less like a cage and more like home.
