Chapter 14 - The Unmasking

"For weeks," Luca's voice resonated through the hidden speakers, cold and unyielding, "certain individuals within this estate have gone to great lengths to bury the truth about my family's history. They believed that by destroying physical evidence, they could erase accountability."

Vanessa pushed her way through the cluster of stunned guests, her face draining of color as she marched toward the dais, her red gown swishing sharply against the marble floor. "Luca, what on earth are you doing? Have you lost your mind? Turn off these microphones right now!"

"Stay right where you are, Vanessa," Luca commanded, his tone dropping into a lethal register that stopped her dead in her tracks five feet from the stage. He tapped a button on the podium control panel, and instantly, the massive dual projection screens behind him flickered to life.

Instead of the usual foundation slides, high-definition security camera footage began playing on a continuous loop. The video clearly showed Vanessa walking down the service corridor late at night, slipping into the laundry room, and emerging minutes later with the ivory wedding dress bundled tightly in her arms, her expression twisted in calculated malice.

A collective gasp rippled through the ballroom. Whispers erupted from every corner as prominent socialites stared up at the screens in open disbelief.

"That's a fabrication!" Vanessa shrieked, her voice cracking with sudden, desperate hysteria as she pointed a trembling finger at the screen. "Those files are falsified! Someone hacked the system to frame me!"

"You're welcome to explain that to the local authorities," Luca said coldly, tapping the podium again. This time, the audio recording of Vanessa's voice echoed through the hall: *"Get that filthy dress out of here... if you know what's good for you, keep your mouth shut about what you found."*

The silence in the ballroom was absolute. The guests who had clustered around Vanessa moments before now stepped backward, physically distancing themselves as if her disgrace were contagious. Her financial backers lowered their eyes, realizing their association with her was radioactive.

Vanessa stood paralyzed in the center of the room, her chest heaving as she looked around at the wall of cold, averted gazes. The illusion of her untouchable status had utterly collapsed. Without a word, she turned on her heel and fled through the side service exit, her red gown vanishing into the shadows as the heavy doors slammed shut behind her.
