Chapter 9 - The Confession

The sharp tang of gunsmoke hung heavy in the executive office as Marcus struggled weakly beneath Adrian's unrelenting grip against the cracked glass wall. Outside, the morning sun was finally beginning to pierce through the heavy layer of harbor fog, casting a sharp, golden light across the polished marble floor where the shattered whiskey glass glittered like diamonds. Marcus clawed frantically at Adrian's black tuxedo jacket, his face turning a mottled shade of purple as the air was systematically forced from his lungs.

"Look at the security console by the desk, Elena," Adrian commanded without turning his head, his voice steady and cold as winter steel. "The master recording feed is still active. Make sure every regional director on the board is listening to this room right now."

I walked swiftly across the silent office and pressed the glowing red transmission button on the main communication console, linking our secure feed directly to every senior Mori loyalist across the city. The small indicator light flashed green, confirming that the entire syndicate was now tuned in to our exact coordinates.

"Tell them what you did to my father," I demanded, stepping closer to Marcus with the leather-bound ledgers held firmly against my chest like a shield. "Tell them how you poisoned his evening tea three days before our wedding."

Marcus wheezed, his eyes rolling upward toward the cracked glass behind him and the dizzying drop to the street seventy-five floors below. "I... I did it," he choked out, the harsh confession broadcasting clearly through the open communication speakers across the entire tower network. "He was going to hand the entire shipping empire over to Adrian. I had to... I had to secure my position."

Heavy footsteps echoed suddenly from the private corridor outside the executive suite as Vance and four armed security enforcers burst through the double doors, their weapons drawn and ready. They took in the shattered glass, the fallen gun, and Adrian pinning Marcus against the wall with effortless dominance.

"Clear the floor," Adrian ordered sharply, not releasing his grip until Vance stepped forward and grabbed Marcus by the collar, jerking the traitor away from the glass and slamming him down onto his knees against the marble floor. "Lock him in the lower holding vaults until the morning council meeting begins. No visitors, no phone calls."

Vance nodded grimly, hauling the gasping, defeated man to his feet and dragging him out toward the service elevators with the help of two enforcers. The heavy steel doors slid shut behind them, leaving the executive office in a sudden, profound silence.

Adrian turned slowly to face me, his dark hair slightly ruffled, the slight stubble along his jaw catching the morning light. The tension that had held his frame rigid for the past twenty-four hours finally began to recede, replaced by a deep, quiet stillness as he looked down at me standing there in my ruined wedding gown. He took a slow step forward, reached out, and gently took the heavy ledgers from my hands, setting them aside on the desk before pulling me firmly against his chest.
