Chapter 12 - The Mori Family Council

Two days later, the heavy mahogany doors of the grand boardroom on the seventy-second floor swung open to admit the remaining regional directors and senior capos of the Mori syndicate. The long walnut table was surrounded by men and women in tailored suits, their faces tight with nervous speculation following Marcus's sudden and silent removal from the hierarchy. Rumors of betrayal and corporate restructuring had rippled through the lower ranks, creating an atmosphere charged with volatile uncertainty.

Adrian walked into the room with absolute, unshakeable authority, his dark styled hair combed back, wearing a fresh black tuxedo jacket and crisp white shirt. But it was the woman walking beside him that caused the assembled directors to shift uneasily in their leather seats. I wore a structured navy wool dress, my hair swept back in a clean knot, carrying the recovered financial ledgers and my father's final signed directives in a dark leather portfolio.

"Sit," Adrian commanded, his voice cutting cleanly through the murmurs as he pulled out the high-backed leather chair at the head of the table for me before taking his own seat beside mine.

The silence that followed was absolute. Vance stood quietly by the reinforced double doors, his arms folded across his chest, eyes scanning every face in the room. Adrian didn't waste time on pleasantries or diplomatic half-truths. He opened the leather portfolio, slid the audit reports across the polished wood, and laid out the precise mechanics of Marcus's embezzlement and conspiracy with an outside rival syndicate.

"The leak is sealed," Adrian stated, his dark gaze sweeping slowly over the board members. "The assets have been recovered, and the internal structure has been pruned. Moving forward, Elena Mori sits as my equal partner in all syndicate operations and financial decisions. Any objections will be addressed to both of us."

A tense beat passed before the oldest director at the table, a veteran of my father's early regime, slowly inclined his head in acknowledgment and picked up the ledger. One by one, the others followed suit. The council had spoken without uttering a word. The transition of power was absolute, and my place beside Adrian was no longer a question of marriage, but of law and survival.
