Chapter 14 - The Eve Of The Gala

The night before the public anniversary charity gala, the penthouse suite was a blur of quiet preparation and high-level security checks. Vance and his team had swept the entire perimeter twice, verifying every digital firewall, service elevator access code, and exterior camera angle. The Mori family was entering a new era of stability and transparent strength, and the upcoming gala at the downtown foundation tower would serve as the public declaration of that renewed dominance.
I stood before the tall dressing mirror in the master suite, watching through the glass as Adrian moved quietly behind me. He held a heavy diamond and platinum necklace—an heirloom piece belonging to the Mori matriarchs—and carefully fastened the clasp around my throat. His fingers were warm against the sensitive skin of my neck, his touch deliberate and unhurried.
"The press will be waiting outside the ballroom tomorrow night," Adrian said quietly, his reflection meeting mine in the glass. "They'll want to see a united front. They'll want a fairytale."
"Let them look," I replied, turning slightly to admire the way the diamonds caught the soft indoor lighting. "We've built something much stronger than a fairytale."
Adrian dropped his hands to my shoulders, resting his chin lightly against my dark hair as he looked at our reflection together. The tension of our wedding night—the shadowed bedroom, the hidden letter, the frantic search for a traitor—felt like a lifetime ago. We had walked through fire, and on the other side, we had found not an alliance of convenience, but an unbreakable partnership forged in blood and truth.

"Tonight, we rest," Adrian murmured, his lips brushing the side of my temple before he pulled me back against his chest. "Tomorrow, we take our place."
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city lights flickered on one by one, a vast and glittering grid of steel and glass that stretched out into the dark night. We stood together in the quiet center of our empire, completely secure, fully united, and ready for whatever the world had left to throw at us.
