Chapter 10 - The Reckoning at the Cannery

“Where is Clara’s ledger, Dominic?” Julian asked, stopping twenty paces away on the bloodstained concrete floor.

Dominic chuckled, waving a dismissive hand. “Still playing the loyal knight? Clara never had a ledger. She stole something far more valuable: my peace of mind. You walked out on me, Julian. You made me look like an old fool who couldn't keep his dogs on a leash.”

“You sent men into a house with a five-year-old child,” Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “You made her mother die in fear.”

“And you brought the child here to save your own skin,” Dominic sneered, motioning toward the guards near the truck outside. “Don't act like you have the high ground. You’re a killer, Vance. You’ve always been a killer.”

“You’re wrong about two things, Dominic,” Julian said, his eyes narrowing.

Dominic paused, his smirk fading slightly. “Oh? Enlighten me.”

“First,” Julian said, reaching into his pocket and revealing a small remote detonator. “The child isn't in that truck.”

Outside, a sudden, deafening explosion rocked the pier. The bed of Julian’s truck—rigged with industrial blasting caps—detonated in a fireball, obliterating the entrance guards and collapsing the warehouse’s front gantry in an avalanche of burning timber and twisted steel.

“And second,” Julian continued through the roar of falling debris, “I didn't come here to negotiate.”

Before Dominic’s guards could recover their footing, Julian drew both concealed handguns. In the enclosed industrial space, the gunfire was rhythmic, precise, and devastating.

Julian moved through the smoke like a wraith. He didn't fire in wild bursts; each shot was calculated, dropping three bodyguards before they could raise their sights. Returning fire tore chunks of concrete from the pillars behind him, a bullet grazing his shoulder, but Julian didn't flinch.

He closed the distance, discarding an empty magazine and slapping a fresh one home in a fluid, unbroken motion.

The cannery descended into chaos, but in the center of the storm, Julian was immovable—a storm of pure vengeance driven by five years of stolen childhood.
