Chapter 9 - The Voice That Shattered an Empire

"You're insane," Arthur choked out, his manicured fingers clawing desperately at Dante's wrists as he dangled against the fractured glass, staring down into the dizzying abyss of the city streets below. "You think killing me will stop the investigation? My board of directors has dead-man switches set to release legal injunctions across every federal agency the second my heartbeat flatlines!"

"I'm not going to kill you, Arthur," Dante said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion, cold as winter steel. "That's too clean. Dying is an easy way out for a coward who hides behind lawyers and corporate proxies. You're going to watch everything you built get dismantled piece by piece, right down to the concrete foundation."

Marcus stepped forward into the center of the office, holding a secure military-grade tactical tablet. With a few rapid taps on the screen, he plugged a cable directly into the master communication port hidden beneath Arthur's desk obsidian slab. A sharp electronic beep echoed through the silent office.

"Mainframe access achieved," Marcus announced, his eyes darting across the scrolling streams of encrypted data cascading down the display. "I'm routing the secure audio feed directly into the federal prosecutor's grand jury conference room downtown. Every word spoken in this room is being recorded live and transcribed by federal stenographers right now."

Arthur's eyes widened in genuine panic, the color entirely draining from his cheeks. He stopped struggling against Dante's grip. "No... you can't do that. Those files are proprietary—they're protected under corporate privilege!"

"Corporate privilege doesn't cover international arms trafficking and municipal embezzlement, Arthur," I said, walking slowly toward the desk until I stood right beside Dante. I looked down at the man who had terrorized me for months, who had threatened my life and the life of my unborn child to keep his secrets buried. "You thought I was just a quiet girl who took dictation and brewed your coffee. You didn't think I had the courage to look at what was inside those folders."

Arthur stared at me, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly as the sheer magnitude of his defeat settled over him. His political protection, his shell companies, his untouchable status—it was all evaporating in real time, piped directly into a federal grand jury room while he hung suspended over the city he thought he owned.

"Nora..." Arthur whispered, his voice cracking for the first time, losing all its corporate arrogance. "We can make an arrangement. A settlement. Name your price—shares, real estate, offshore accounts—"

"Save it," Dante interrupted, shoving Arthur backward onto the floor where he crumpled against the base of the shattered glass window, panting and broken.
