Chapter 14 - The Global Broadcast

The rustic coastal cabin smelled of burning cedar logs and salt air, the distant crash of the Pacific Ocean providing a relentless, rhythmic bassline to the quiet storm inside. Outside, the rain lashed against the heavy glass windows, but within the warm shelter of the room, the only sound was the clicking of keys on Roman's ruggedized laptop. I sat beside him on the wooden bench, my hands wrapped around a mug of hot tea while watching the progress bar on the screen inch toward completion.

Roman had a white gauze bandage taped firmly around his forearm where the security guard's knife had clipped him during our escape from the Portland tower, but his hands remained steady as steel. He pressed enter, routing the downloaded master archive—Arthur's financial records, the offshore shell accounts, the explicit emails, and the forensic proof of the alpine setup—directly through an encrypted, decentralized satellite network to every major federal investigative channel, news desk, and wire service across the Pacific Northwest.

"It's live," Roman whispered, leaning back against the wooden bench and turning his dark, intense gaze toward me. "By morning, Arthur's entire corporate empire, his public foundation, and his alibi will be dismantled piece by piece. There is no legal team in the country that can bury this volume of irrefutable forensic evidence."

I stared at the screen, watching the flashing confirmation icons blink green across the monitor. The weight that had crushed my chest since the moment I woke up on that snowy mountain ledge finally began to lift, dissolving into the warm, crackling flames of the stone hearth. I wasn't a ghost hiding in the shadows anymore. I was a survivor who had fought her way back from the grave to reclaim her life, her dignity, and her future.

"He thought he could erase me," I said, my voice trembling slightly as I looked down at my hands, tracing the faint scars left by the ice and the snow. "He thought my silence was the easiest way to protect his reputation."

"He miscalculated," Roman replied softly, reaching out to take my hand in his, his tattooed fingers intertwining firmly with mine. "He didn't know who he was dealing with. And he sure as hell didn't know you had backup."

I smiled, a genuine, radiant expression breaking through the exhaustion on my face as I leaned my head against his solid, reassuring shoulder. For the first time in months, the future didn't feel like a terrifying unknown. It felt open, vast, and entirely ours to build.
