Chapter 14 - Reckoning Under the Chandeliers

The music in the grand ballroom swelled as I re-entered, the crystal chandeliers shimmering above the gathered elite. Alessandro detached himself from a group of stiff-backed executives the moment he caught sight of me, crossing the polished marble floor with long, purposeful strides. Before he could reach me, Vivian hurried in from the garden doors, her face flushed and frantic, desperate to seize control of the narrative before the night slipped entirely from her grasp.
"Alessandro," Vivian announced, her voice carrying sharply across the room, demanding the attention of every guest in earshot. "You are making a catastrophic mistake. This woman is a fraud, a disgraced nobody hiding under an assumed name, and she has been rifling through private family property!"
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Alessandro stopped dead in his tracks, his gaze shifting from Vivian to me, not with doubt, but with a cold, terrifying stillness. He didn't flinch. Instead, he reached out and took my hand, drawing me safely to his side before turning his dark, piercing eyes fully onto his cousin.
"The only fraud in this room, Vivian, is the one who has been systematically draining the Vance family trust," I said clearly, stepping forward. I reached into my evening bag, withdrawing the heavy, bound corporate ledgers and holding them out toward Alessandro. "These documents, recovered from a locked compartment in her private suite, detail millions in unauthorized embezzlement and forged signatures designed to frame you."

Alessandro took the ledgers, his gloved fingers flipping rapidly through the incriminating pages as his expression turned to chiseled ice. He looked up, his voice ringing through the cavernous hall with absolute authority. "Security. Escort Ms. Vance off the property immediately. Lock her accounts and notify federal investigators."
Vivian screamed in absolute horror as two towering guards stepped forward, gripping her arms and dragging her backward across the polished marble as she thrashed and shrieked curses. The elite guests watched in stunned, paralyzed silence as the corrupt antagonist was banished from the estate forever. When the heavy oak doors finally slammed shut behind her, the ballroom was profoundly still. Alessandro turned to me, the cold authority melting away to reveal a deep, unwavering devotion. He pulled me against his chest, the tension of years finally breaking under the warm chandelier light.
