Chapter 8 - The Collapse of Staged Elegance

By mid-morning, the artificial calm of the estate had completely shattered. The news that the household's inner circle had been compromised spread among the staff in tense whispers behind closed doors, though no one dared speak above a murmur in the hallways.
I was tasked with assisting the security detail as they searched the main living quarters for additional evidence. When we reached the grand dressing suite belonging to the fiancée, the heavy double doors were unlocked. Inside, the room was a whirlwind of frantic preparation. Designer garment bags lay unzipped across the king-size bed, and jewelry boxes were overturned, their contents scattered among discarded silk scarves and airline brochures.
She was standing by the vanity mirror when we entered, clutching a diamond-encrusted hairbrush as if it were a weapon. Her dark red gown was gone, replaced by a severe charcoal travel suit, though her hair was still elaborately styled.

"You're a guest who overstayed her welcome," a cold voice answered from the doorway.
The man in the black suit stepped into the suite, his black jacket unbuttoned, his gaze devoid of any warmth. He didn't look at the scattered luggage or the weeping display of distress; he looked only at her eyes.
She dropped the hairbrush, letting out a theatrical gasp, and stumbled backward against the vanity table, clutching her chest with a trembling hand. "You're listening to a servant? A girl who washes the floors? You're throwing away years of loyalty over a dirty maid's lie—"

"The doctor's report is on my desk," he interrupted, his voice flat and absolute. "The pharmacy logs bear your digital authorization stamp. And the financial wire transfers to an account in Palm Beach match the exact timeline of the prescription changes."
Her theatrical collapse faltered. The trembling hand dropped to her side. The color drained entirely from her face, leaving her skin looking chalky and gray beneath the vanity lights. The performance was over; there was nothing left to act against.
