Chapter 1: Where Did You Learn To Hide Things

The cold of the white marble floor bit through the delicate fabric of my white silk robe, but the physical chill was nothing compared to the dead, heavy silence that filled the modern minimalist luxury living room. My reflection smeared across the massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the city, distorted by the wetness in my eyes. Just inches away from the sleek, matte-black trash bin stood Julian. He towered over me, his tailored black suit sharp against the soft daylight filtering through the glass, his dark wavy hair catching the high-contrast shadow of the room. In his right hand, he held the small white pregnancy test strip, the two faint pink indicator lines glowing like a silent accusation.

"Where did you learn to hide things from me?" Julian asked.

His voice was a low, tense confrontation, stripped of all warmth. It wasn't loud; it didn't need to be. The quiet deadliness in his tone filled the open-concept space, bouncing off the contemporary white sofa furniture and the dying embers of the glowing fireplace.

I raised trembling hands to cover my face, hot tears streaming down my flushed cheeks as the reality of being caught closed in around me. "I wasn't... I was going to tell you," I stammered, the words catching in my raw throat.

Julian didn't step back. Instead, he closed the distance between us, his heavy breathing a steady, menacing rhythm. He dropped down slightly into my space, bringing his hand directly in front of my face. The white plastic strip hovered mere inches from my tear-stained skin, the pink lines mocking my hesitation.

"Whose is this, Ana?" he demanded.

The air in the room felt entirely depleted. Every instinct I possessed—every protective, survival-driven impulse that had made me slip the test into the bottom of the trash bin instead of placing it on the bathroom counter—screamed at me to lie, to deflect, to invent a safeguard. But looking into Julian's dark, unyielding eyes, I knew evasion was impossible. His entire world was built on absolute predictability, on control that admitted no variables.

I looked up, my eyes wide, terrified, and swimming with fresh tears, and whispered the confession directly into his unwavering gaze.

"It's yours."

For a fraction of a second, the motion in the room froze. The muffled sobbing in my own chest was the only sound. Julian stared down at me, his expression entirely unreadable, a mask of cold shock hardening instantly into something far more dangerous. He didn't drop the test, nor did he soften.

Before I could draw another ragged breath, his hand shot out, wrapping firmly around my bare arm. With a swift, inexorable motion, he hauled me straight up from the cold marble floor, ignoring the way my knees buckled slightly under the sudden vertical shift.

"You're coming with me," he said.
